‍PFAS TREATMENT FACILITY PROGRESS

It was an exciting week for Ridgewood Water! Granular Activated Carbon vessels were delivered to the Ames PFAS Treatment Facility in Wyckoff (left), and Resin Ion Exchange vessels were delivered to the West End PFAS Treatment Facility in Ridgewood. When operational next year, the six vessels at Ames will treat up to 2.1 million gallons of water per day. And the two vessels at West End will treat up to 620,000 gallons of water per day. All regulated PFAS compounds will be undetectable in the treated water, surpassing the EPA standard of 4 parts per trillion.

‍GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY

‍A ceremonial groundbreaking took place on Thursday afternoon at the site of the Main PFAS Treatment Facility in Glen Rock, which will be built with the help of a $1 million state budget appropriation. The budget resolution was sponsored and supported by Assemblywoman Lisa Swain and Assemblyman Chris Tully (pictured), along with Senator Joseph Lagana, Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese and Senator Paul Sarlo. When completed in 2026, the facility will treat up to 360,000 gallons of water per day.

‍HYDRANT FLUSHING STARTS THIS WEEKEND

‍As part of Ridgewood Water’s annual preventive maintenance program, utility crews will be flushing hydrants during the last two weeks of October, weather conditions permitting.

Flushing will take place from 9:00 pm to 4:30 am from October 19 through 24 (Sunday night through Friday morning) and October 26 through 30 (Sunday night through Thursday morning).

Please note: You may experience temporary low water pressure or discoloration of your water. Any discolored water is from mineral deposits dislodged during the flushing process and is not a health or safety concern. Ridgewood Water recommends running cold water at the lowest tub or sink for a few minutes before doing laundry or using the dishwasher in order to clear the water.

Also recommended: bypassing any home filtration systems during the flushing process, as mineral deposits could load the filter membrane.

‍ONE STEP CLOSER

‍The Kingsbrigde Lane Pedestrian Bridge is one step closer to reopening for foot traffic. The bridge was set in place this week, marking a major milestone in the restoration project. Crews will now move forward with the remaining work to permanently secure the structure before it officially opens to the public.

‍AND THE WINNER IS...

‍The Ridgewood Fire Department capped off Fire Prevention Week by conducting timed fire drills at all Ridgewood public schools. Congratulations to Orchard Elementary School, which earned the coveted white fire helmet for demonstrating the most improvement over last year's results! ‍DROUGHT WATCH

‍ARTOBER AT THE STABLE

‍The Ridgewood Arts Foundation's third annual ARTober Exhibit, a month-long celebration of local artists, runs through October 28 at The Stable. ‍CALLING ALL CRAFTERS

This winter, trees around the Village will be getting a cozy, colorful new look courtesy of the Outside AiR (Art in Ridgewood) Committee. A whimsical "yarn bomb" art installation is in the works, and the committee could use more volunteers to knit or crochet granny squares (any color, size or pattern) for the project. If you can help, please email RidgewoodMuralProject@gmail.com. The deadline for donations is November 1.
