‍ROAD RESURFACING WRAPS UP

The Village's 2025 road resurfacing program is wrapping up before the start of the new school year. Bellair Road, Clinton Avenue, Doremus Avenue, Grove Street, Stevens Avenue and the Graydon South parking lot are complete, with Hammond Road scheduled for finishing touches in early September. Maintaining quality roads has been a Village priority over the past three summers, and that focus will continue as we plan for 2026.

‍PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
ENHANCEMENT

‍The Signal Division was busy installing pedestrian-activated crosswalk flashers at the intersection of East Glen Avenue and Northern Parkway this week. Pushing the button turns on rapid flashing LED lights, which are designed to increase driver awareness and enhance visbility of pedestrians in crosswalks. Research suggests that these types of lights at marked crosswalks can result in driver yielding rates as high as 98 percent.

‍NJDEP APPROVES
PARK PROJECT

‍The Village is pleased that a final decision on the future of the Zabriskie-Schedler property was made by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection on Wednesday.

Since 2009, when the property was first purchased by the Village to save it from commercial development, the intention has always been to develop a community park on the site. With the subsequent State and National Historic Registry designations – of both the house and the surrounding property – a balanced plan needed to be achieved that preserves and celebrates the historic character of the John A. L. Zabriskie House, while providing for the recreational needs of the community. The approval achieves both of those objectives.

The John A. L. Zabriskie House will be the home of the History & Cultural Center of Bergen County, just in time for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in July of 2026. The Village looks forward to partnering with the Bolger Heritage Center at the Ridgewood Public Library and the Ridgewood Historical Society in this endeavor.

We also look forward to the development of a community park, which will include walking paths, an ADA-accessible playground, an increased natural buffer to further separate the house from park activities, and an athletic field that will benefit all the residents of Ridgewood.

The creation of both the center and the park on the property will align our goals to provide adequate recreation spaces for our residents, while providing an opportunity to learn about our local history.
