‍LEAF COLLECTION UPDATE |
‍The final round of leaf pickups started on Monday, December 2nd. Thanks to our crews working 10 hours a day, six days a week, approximately 80 percent of the leaves in the Village have been collected.
Here’s what the multi-step leaf collection process looks like:
- Leaves are pushed into large piles by one crew.
- Street sweepers and "pusher trucks" push remaining debris onto the piles.
- Leaves are picked up and loaded onto trucks by another crew.
- Curb lines are blown off.
- Street sweepers do a final cleaning of the street.
- Leaf vacuums are out every day to clean streets with smaller amounts of leaves.
Because this process involves multiple steps and multiple crews, leaf piles may remain on the street for several hours before they are collected by the next crew.
Reminder: Only leaves and yard waste (such as grass clippings) belong in leaf piles. Please do not place concrete, rocks, trash and other inappropriate materials in leaf piles.

‍UPCOMING PAVING WORK |
‍The weather and the temperature will dictate whether the following streets will be closed for paving on Monday, December 9th or Tuesday, December 10th, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Spring Avenue between South Maple Avenue and Brookside Avenue
- South Irving Street from Spring Avenue to Grove Street
- Grove Street from Prospect Street to South Van Dien Avenue
‍PARTIAL ROAD CLOSURE |
‍Glen Avenue will be partially closed (allowing for one-lane traffic) from Oak Street to Upper Boulevard on Tuesday, December 10th from approximately 5:00 am to 3:00 pm, as work progresses toward the installation of a booster station to increase flow to a low-pressure area affected by the boil water advisory this past September. The first step of this project is connecting to the existing water main and extending two eight-inch water mains across Glen Avenue. (See the snapshot of last week’s work.) Detours will be in place, and police officers will be on site to assist drivers. |

‍HAWES FIELD RESTORATION
‍The lower Hawes field project is underway! New natural sod is being installed to make the field safer for our young athletes. Many thanks to our Parks & Recreation Department for getting this project done! |
NEW TREES AT 'THE VIEW' |
‍New trees (Oriental spruces and Eastern redbuds) were planted at "The View" this week to help establish a buffer zone between the lookout on Crest Road and the residential properties below on Hillcrest Road. This project follows the removal of three trees last week that were in declining health. |
‍PARKS & REC GIVING TREE |
‍The Parks & Recreation Department's "Giving Tree" supporting the Center for Hope and Safety could use more love. Please consider dropping off a new, unwrapped gift or two for victims of domestic violence (women, children, teenagers) by Tuesday, December 10th. Thank you for your generosity! |

‍DECEMBER STORY WALK |
Looking for something fun and different to do with your young children? Take them on a Story Walk in the meadow adjacent to the Stable! A Story Walk is an exciting literary initiative that combines the reading of a children's story with a walking route. In Gather Round, a gorgeous picture book by David Covell, a girl and her father build a campfire together and create a community of passing travelers. Enjoy this free activity, courtesy of the Ridgewood Parks & Recreation Department, throughout the month of December.‍
