GREEN RIDGEWOOD GAZETTE

‍Green Ridgewood is pleased to present the third issue of the Green Ridgewood Gazette! Learn all about leaves - the benefits of leaving them on your lawn, how many leaves the Village of Ridgewood collects each year, where to get FREE MULCH and more. In this issue you'll also find articles about flooding and stormwater challenges, the benefits of collecting rainwater, water conservation and a Q&A with Green Ridgewood member Miles Luo. Read the latest issue of the Green Ridgweood Gazette.

‍LEAF COLLECTION UPDATE

Due to the excessively dry conditions this season, many trees throughout the Village have dropped their leaves earlier than expected, leading to an increase in leaf accumulation in our neighborhoods. Out of an abundance of caution for fire safety, the Department of Public Works has expanded its leaf collection hours.

Work (including leaf blowing) will begin at approximately 5:00 am and could extend past dark in order to maximize leaf collection efforts. Leaves will also be collected on Saturday. Please note: Leaf blowers will be operating at half speed in order to minimize early-morning disruptions to residents.

‍DROUGHT WARNING
IN EFFECT

‍The state declared a Drought Warning on Wednesday, citing historically low precipitation, above-average temperatures and deteriorating water-supply conditions. The goal of a Drought Warning is to preserve and balance available water supplies in an effort to avoid more serious water shortages in the future. Residents are strongly encouraged to conserve water. Learn more.

‍VILLAGE TREE PLANTING

‍To date, 145 trees have been planted in the Village! In light of the historic drought, we ask homeowners who have had a tree planted either by the Village or by Adopt-A-Sapling volunteers, to adequately water it by hand every few days until the drought ends or the ground freezes.

‍FREE SCREENING TODAY

Come to the first-floor Garden Room at Village Hall on Friday, November 15th - between 1:00 and 3:00 pm - for a free blood pressure screening. High blood pressure is often called the "silent killer" because most people who have it don't have any obvious symptoms. That's why it's important to have your blood pressure checked on a regular basis.
